In a match that promised so much, Derry City's hopes of lifting the FAI Cup were dashed by a resolute Drogheda United side. Despite a fervent support of over 20,000 Candy Stripes fans, the Candystripes couldn't overcome a stubborn Drogheda's defense and ultimately succumbed to a 2-0 defeat.
The game started brightly for Derry, with the Candystripes dominating possession and creating a number of early chances. However, the Drogs defended resolutely, and their goalkeeper pulled off a string of impressive saves to keep the score level.
